Extended Semantic Web Conference</title>
<description>
The mission of the Extended Semantic Web Conference ESWC 2010 is to bring together researchers and practioners dealing with different aspects of semantics on the Web. ESWC2010 builds on the success of the former European Semantic Web Conference series but seeks to extend its focus by engaging with other communities within and outside ICT in which semantics can play an important role. At the same time ESWC2010 is a truly international conference.Semantics of web content enriched with domain theories ontologies data about web usage natural language processing etc. will enable a web that provides a qualitatively new level of functionality. It will weave together a large network of human knowledge and make this knowledge machine processable. Various automated services based on reasoning with metadata and ontologies will help the users to achieve their goals by accessing and processing information in machine understandable form. This network of knowledge systems will ultimately lead to truly intelligent systems which will be employed for various complex decision making tasks. Research about web semantics can benefit from ideas and cross fertilization with many other areas Artificial Intelligence Natural Language Processing Database and Information Systems Information Retrieval Multimedia Distributed Systems Social Networks Web Engineering and Web Science.ESWC2010 will present the latest results in research and applications in its field. The research program will be organised in targeted tracks. In addition the conference will feature a tutorial program system descriptions and demos a posters track a Ph.D. symposium and a number of collocated workshops. The calls for these events are separate and can be found on the conference Web site http//www.eswc2010.org/.ESWC2010 is brought to you by STI International Semantic Technology Institute International. SDForum Software Architecture Event: Social Media Era</title>
<description>
Rising of social networks like Twitter and Facebook has been flooding the web with user generated contents in the amount that was never seen before. As we become more depending on the social media for daily information gathering and social interaction we have started to demand more from search engines such as real time conversations and social connections. Such new environment is forcing search engine technology to evolve. This presentation will first review the traditional search engine technologies and architecture. Then we will talk about some of the new architectures for supporting real time search and social search. The last part of the presentation is devoted to discussion of the emerging real time web monitoring system the cousin of search engine. Social media monitoring is predicted to become a mainstream tool for consumers and businesses because the inherent collective intelligece has the potential to further increase the efficiency of finding information and making decision as what search engine has done. Speaker BioAJ Chen Technical Architect Healthline Networks Inc.AJ Chen Ph.D. is an advocate of semantic web social media monitoring and digital health. As a Technical Architect at Healthline he applies semantic technology in developing healthcare search engine for consumers.</description>

Semantic technology</title>
<description>
Semantic technology, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search In software, semantic technology encodes meanings separately from data and content files, and separately from application code. This enables machines as well as people to understand, share and reason with them at execution time. With semantic technologies, adding, changing and implementing new relationships or interconnecting programs in a different way can be just as simple as changing the external model that these programs share. With traditional information technology, on the other hand, meanings and relationships must be predefined and “hard wired” into data formats and the application program code at design time. This means that when something changes, previously unexchanged information needs to be exchanged, or two programs need to interoperate in a new way, the humans must get involved. Off-line, the parties must define and communicate between them the knowledge needed to make the change, and then recode the data structures and program logic to accommodate it, and then apply these changes to the database and the application. Then, and only then, can they implement the changes. Semantic technologies are “meaning-centered.” They include tools for: autorecognition of topics and concepts, information and meaning extraction, and categorization. Given a question, semantic technologies can directly search topics, concepts, associations that span a vast number of sources. Semantic technologies provide an abstraction layer above existing IT technologies that enables bridging and interconnection of data, content, and processes. Second, from the portal perspective, semantic technologies can be thought of as a new level of depth that provides far more intelligent, capable, relevant, and responsive interaction than with information technologies alone.
