Evri(TM) Moves Into Open Beta, Introduces New Ways to Discover and Browse Web Content

We are excited at the opportunity to open our user experience and technology to the broader web audience ... We hope to create user serendipity around the things in which we are all interested, in a unique and engaging way. Evri has created a semantic map of well over half a billion of the web's relationships that will begin making the web better for browsing and discovering new content--with less work for the user.

Elevator Pitch: NewsCred has new plans for the news

Iraj is a big fan of Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the web and doing a lot of work in semantic technology now. We both love what Sergey and Larry have done with Google, and would also encourage all startups to read what the guys at 37Signals have to say. Iraj also has to give kudos to his Swedish counterpart, Niklas Zennstrom. Also, Jeff Bezos. We could go on...

Semantic Integration of Multiple Excel Spreadsheets

The Semantic Discovery System (SDS) - Semantic Web on your DesktopTM - totally removes all the frustrating issues involved in integrating multiple spreadsheets (and Corporate databases -- Oracle etc) -- and further, provides a unique and powerful graphical user interface for easily creating advanced queries and reports across multiple spreadsheets and other disparate data sources. This is achieved through the use of Semantic Web technology with an advanced data integration engine -- running on your Desktop, requiring no technical expertise, yet providing a unique and powerful user experience.

Sublime & Subliminal: Semantics for Online Advertising

Google Tech Talks
August 6, 2008

ABSTRACT

Web advertising, hasn't delivered its potential value to advertisers. This is partcularly true for contextual advertisement. The main problem is that the marriage of ad and the content of a page is based on algorithms that do not offer satisfactory results in understanding the actual meaning of the content of a web page. Try the search "stock base" in Google or Yahoo. You will get many more pages about equities than you do about soup. Yet the ads placed on these pages are too often not related to the main topic of the article. Showing an ad about food when the intended use of "stock base" was in the context of equities it's a mismatch.

Expert System now offers a revolutionary solution that automatically processes the meaning of the text to ensure that the ads selected are relevant. Expert System's CSA (Cogito Semantic Ad) relies on its Semantic Intelligence technology to analyze text on the page through linguistic analysis and Semantic Comprehension to assure that promotional information can be served more effectively.

[Expert System is looking to partner with Google. Anyone interested in discussing such possibilities should contact host Ellen Spertus (spertus@google.com) to arrange a meeting.]

Speaker: Marco Varone
Founder, CTO, and Director of the Board of Expert System, Marco is the "father" of the technology behind the Company's products and a key driver of the Company with his vision and technical skills. Marco is responsible for the R activities and roadmap in the software and linguistic areas. Marco holds a degree in Computer Science at the University of Modena with honors.

Speaker: Luca Scagliarini
Luca Scaliarini is VP of Strategy and Business Development for Expert System and responsible for the international expansion and strategic alliances. Prior to joining Expert System, Luca was VP Field Marketing Europe with think3 Inc., and Manager of the Services Product Line at SiteSmith, a managed services provider, where he helped to build the company up to the successful sale to Metromedia Fiber Network. Luca started his career with Hewlett Packard in product marketing roles in Italy and in the US. He holds an Electronic Engineering Degree from Politecnico di Milano and an MBA from Santa Clara University.

Generating and Querying Semantic Metadata and Ontologies

Google Tech Talks
June 21, 2007

ABSTRACT

Semantic technologies aim at providing machine interpretable descriptions of information and services. Ontologies and related metadata provide the technological backbone for these semantic technologies that gain more and more relevance also in commercial settings, for example for information integration, search and retrieval.

The talk will discuss various recent developments in the area of ontology and metadata management. As a starting point we present Semantic Mediawiki - an extension of the well-established Mediawiki platform that runs Wikipedia - for the large-scale collaborative generation of semantic metadata. We also show how simple semantic...

Semantic technology

Semantic technology, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search In software, semantic technology encodes meanings separately from data and content files, and separately from application code. This enables machines as well as people to understand, share and reason with them at execution time. With semantic technologies, adding, changing and implementing new relationships or interconnecting programs in a different way can be just as simple as changing the external model that these programs share. With traditional information technology, on the other hand, meanings and relationships must be predefined and “hard wired” into data formats and the application program code at design time. This means that when something changes, previously unexchanged information needs to be exchanged, or two programs need to interoperate in a new way, the humans must get involved. Off-line, the parties must define and communicate between them the knowledge needed to make the change, and then recode the data structures and program logic to accommodate it, and then apply these changes to the database and the application. Then, and only then, can they implement the changes. Semantic technologies are “meaning-centered.” They include tools for: autorecognition of topics and concepts, information and meaning extraction, and categorization. Given a question, semantic technologies can directly search topics, concepts, associations that span a vast number of sources. Semantic technologies provide an abstraction layer above existing IT technologies that enables bridging and interconnection of data, content, and processes. Second, from the portal perspective, semantic technologies can be thought of as a new level of depth that provides far more intelligent, capable, relevant, and responsive interaction than with information technologies alone.
